Clay day, all day

I both love and hate ceramics. It's messy! And dusty! Requires longer set-up and clean-up periods. However, my students always love it. From the very beginning of the year, they want to know what the ceramic project is going to be and when they will get to work with clay. And their enthusiasm is certainly contagious. In one day I taught three separate ceramics classes. K-1 students are working to make ceramic penguins (to expand on their science unit). Sixth graders are studying the photographic work of Joel Sartore and turning a simple coil pot into an endangered species from the Photo Ark. And my ninth graders are trying their hand at wheel throwing!
